Roof shingles, like the ones seen in the photo above, are rectangular roof elements normally made out of asphalt, fiberglass, or both. The shingles will overlap and have one or more layers beneath them to make the entire roof system watertight. Shingles are a very popular, budget friendly option in South Florida. They may not offer the greatest protection, but they're strong enough to withstand most storms and are the cheapest and easiest to install of the major roofing systems.
